Revitalization of North Swan Street Park

North Swan Street Park, a once dilapidated lot, was transformed into a multi-generational green urban park within the City of Albany’s Arbor Hill neighborhood. The neighborhood came together and called for quality of life improvements for the area. MJ’s design incorporated the vision of the local community. Not only were the design goals met, but the project provided a landmark in Arbor Hill and a point of pride for the neighborhood.
MJ worked closely with the city to design an environmentally sensitive, multi-use outdoor community center equipped with a playground, amphitheater, interactive water feature, picnic areas, benches, prominent landscaping and a new basketball court.
MJ’s design team utilized green infrastructure practices that demonstrate both new and innovative approaches to sustainable water management. The project was designed to reduce impervious cover by more than 25 percent. The sustainable design features will provide financial savings and environmental benefits for generations to come.
