Rehabilitation of Third Avenue Bridge
City of Rensselaer, New York
The Third Avenue Bridge is a major thoroughfare for vehicle traffic and pedestrians traveling over the railroad lines that bisect the City of Rensselaer.
The bridge is an eight-span structure which had experienced significant deterioration. MJ’s rehabilitation design included replacement of high rocker bearings and deck joints, repairs to the steel superstructure and substructure piers, upgrades to the bridge fencing and lighting and bridge painting. MJ inspectors completed an in-depth, hands-on inspection of the bridge.
The project involved extensive coordination with CSX and AMTRAK railroads. MJ led public information meetings, and performed environmental permitting, survey and mapping, and construction inspection.
