Downtown Parking Garage Rehabilitation
Schenectady, New York
MJ provided a structural assessment and associated design for the rehabilitation of downtown Schenectady’s municipal parking garage located on Broadway. The 330,000-square-foot garage holds 1,200 cars, is handicapped accessible with two elevators, features covered parking and numerous security cameras. The garage is heavily used for events at Proctors Theater and patrons visiting the local shops, restaurants and businesses in the city’s busy downtown community.
The assessment was completed to note structural deficiencies and prioritize future maintenance work for the city. Following the assessment and report, MJ completed design and prepared bid documents for the necessary garage repairs. The project was divided into two phases. The first phase included replacement of the traffic coat on the upper level of the garage and expansion joint repairs. The second phase included concrete and steel plate connection repairs.
MJ utilized our 3D laser scanner to aid in the structural assessment and design of a parking garage. The data was used to develop as-builts and monitor the structural stability of the garage stairway during rehabilitation.
